Facts emerged on Wednesday that ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua was rushed home by members of his kitchen cabinet when they realised that the members of the Federal Executive Council were bent on removing him from office.

Our correspondent learnt that members of the cabal also realised that the President’s removal would signal a calamity of their own individual political ambitions.

A presidency source told our correspondent that the members of the cabinet knew that their game would be up when the six-man delegation sent to Saudi Arabia to assess the health condition of the President returned to the country.

The source added that it was at this stage that members of the kitchen cabinet started the plan to bring the President back home.

He revealed that the non-granting of landing permit to the team to land in Saudi Arabia which necessitated the delay in their departure was masterminded by the members of the kitchen cabinet with the connivance of the Saudi authorities.

The source said, “You know that these people have their different ambitions and that without the President being in place, it will be difficult for them to actualise their dream.

“Also, they were afraid that if the Acting President finally becomes the President, they might be sacked.

“This would have been possible if the ministers were allowed to return and still come back without seeing the President. You can guess what would have been the reactions of Nigerians based on the fact that many prominent Nigerians and governors had gone to Saudi to see the President but returned without seeing him.

“So, the best was to return the man under the cover of darkness and then they will continue their business as usual.”

He added that many of them were not comfortable with Jonathan saying that they were ready to do anything possible to make sure that he did not get to the position.

The source also called on Jonathan to watch his back, adding that “this is not the best times to trust anyone.”

The source also said that though Jonathan was still the Acting President and Commander-in-Chief as at the time Yar’Adua was brought into the country, he said that he was not aware when troops were deployed to the airport to receive the President.
