Yinka Odumakin, Secretary General of Afenifere Renewal Group, has said that the group condemns the manner in which ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua was smuggled into the country as “a package of contraband” in the dead of the night.
He said: “It is unacceptable to us that our president was packaged as cocaine and smuggled into the country at the dead of the night.
“That was why we were insisting on a complete transmission of power to Jonathan. It goes to show that some cabals are bent on taking us to the status quo ante and we are not going to accept that.
“Now, the first thing he has to do is to address the nation live on television and radio; and there is the need to know the level of his medical fitness to continue to rule as president. Otherwise, it will be taken that the government has moved beyond him.”
Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted with mixed feelings to the arrival of President Yar’Adua’s return to the country on Wednesday morning after about 98 days’ sojourn in Saudi Arabia for medical treatment.
In a telephone conversation with the Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday, in Lagos a foremost prophet, Primate Elijah B. Ayodele, attributed the arrival of the president to the acceptance of prayers offered by both the body of church and the Nigerian populace throughout Yar’Adua’s absence.
While speaking further on several predictions by many clergymen with regards to the health problems of the president, the Primate, Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos State, enjoined prophets who made predictions to the nation to ensure that they profer solutions to some predictions rather than dwelling so much on the negative aspects of their predictions.
